A1C Butcher

Allright, My name is A1C Butcher, I am currently enlisted in the United States Air Force.

June 26, I stood and swore in….After that came almost 7 weeks of Basic Training, Most say it was the hardest thing they ever went through, hell….they need a life, it was 6 1/2 weeks of boy scout camp. The hardest thing for me was being away from my family and girlfriend. You live it meal to meal, sunday to sunday and the days fly by.

August 2, a week and a day before graduation, I was told I had an appointment at the hospital, so I proceded to the hospital where I was informed that from dental xrays they thought I had a tumor on my chin and I was to undergo the knife immediately. I was crushed, I could be Medically discharged from my dream.

August 10 I graduate Air Force Basic Military Training, I walk the parade feild “Warrior Airman, Fly, Fight, Win” and Raise my right hand “I……do solemny swear….to support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America” At that moment I had never been more proud of myself, I look into the crowd of thousands of people and see my Father, A 30 year retired Army vetran. Standing there, looking at me…..dead stare but in his eyes I could see he was proud of me. They Release us and everyones parents rush the parade feild, the first of my family to come running up, My mom and my sister, gave me the biggest hug I had ever received, followed by my girlfriend and her step mom. My dad never hugged me, just shook my hand and said “Great Job son” he’s hardcore like that.

August 14 Im still at basic training, only this time, Im a hold over. You seem to get alot more respect, rolled sleeves, Black shirt.  This morning was different though.  I get up but instead of going to PT, I march to the hospital to have my surgury on my chin. My Prayers were answered and it was only a sist, God was with me. During this week of hold over I made a couple more friends, 1 became a good friend.

August 20 I leave lackland (Finally) and hit the road to Keesler AFB. Now its time to learn my job, Integrated Weapons Systems Avionics. My friend from “holdover week” has the same job, we become wingmen, and brothers. This is where the blog really starts, we decided that we have a story to tell. Others may want to read about our tales, our good time and bad, What the Air Force is really all about. So for those reading, I thank you and urge you to continue to read, and too pass this blog to your friends for them to read, to pass our story to co workers, the family of those also serveing. Because we know what its like to serve our country.

The Beginning

This blog is about 2 guys who one day decided that they need to serve their country. So they went to the local recruiting station and walked away as a part of the Greatest Airpower the world has ever seen: the United States Air Force!!!!

One hailed from California, the other from West Virginia, and they had no idea that one day they would become “Wingmen.” This is not a tale of how they became friends or the troubles they went through or their life before basic, but a tale of a Day in the life of an American Airman.

I am an American Airman.
I am a Warrior.
I have answered my nation’s call.
I am an American Airman.
My mission is to fly, fight, and win.
I am faithful to a proud heritage,
a tradition of honor,
and a legacy of valor.
I am an American Airman,
Guardian of freedom and justice,
My nation’s sword and shield,
Its sentry and avenger.
I defend my country with my life.

I am an American Airman:
Wingman, Leader, Warrior.
I will never leave an Airman behind.
I will never falter,
and I will not fail.
